Here is some helpful information to get you through your evening:

  • Doors open for VIP Experiences at 5:00 PM, please arrive by 5:15 PM so the experiences can start promptly at 5:30 PM
  • Entrance and Exit to the event is through the North main entrance of the Calgary Zoo (except for the VIP “Exclusive Wine & Food Pairing” Experience)
  • Print your event ticket and bring it with you, entry will not be given to guests without a printed ticket
  • Tickets are not available for purchase at the door
  • Dress code is business casual

Your VIP Experience

VIP “Behind the Scenes with the Giraffes”

Join the Hayati Children’s Foundation and our Vino for Bambinos Partner, The Calgary Zoo for this special behind the scenes experience. See parking directions as below. Please arrive at the zoo for 5:00 PM, NO LATER than 5:15 PM, guests that are late arriving will likely not be able to participate in the experience. You will all be greeted in the zoo tunnel at the main entrance and directed to the African Savannah building (location #8 on the map). From there all guests are asked to wait outside the building until the zookeeper and other zoo staff have arrived. All participants will then head into the back of house with the zookeeper together. The Giraffe Behind the Scenes starts at 5:30pm sharp! After the experience is completed around 6:10pm, guests are then to proceed to the Enmax Conservatory.

VIP “Exclusive Wine & Food Pairing” Experience

We are delighted to provide you with the below information regarding your upcoming VIP experience. On the night of the event (Thursday, May 26) we ask that you arrive at Briggs Kitchen & Bar (317 10 Ave SW #100) at 5:30 PM to begin your evening. This premiere event starts with a champagne welcome, followed by four wines rated over 90 points paired with five stunning dishes that compliment each other perfectly! This event will be hosted by CBG’s sommelier Carl Boucher and contains food created off-menu, just for this event by Top Chef Canada contestant and award wining Chef, Xavier Lacaze. We have designed this VIP Experience to encompass all that is delicious to entice every pallet! We welcome you to this exciting and exclusive addition to Vino for Bambinos. After the VIP experience, at 6:45 PM, transportation will be provided to transfer you to the Calgary Zoo to enjoy the remainder of the evening at Vino for Bambinos.

Please don’t drink and drive, transportation will be provided to the Calgary Zoo from Briggs Kitchen & Bar. Taxis will be available at the Calgary Zoo after Vino for Bambinos or alternatively the Zoo’s LRT station will still be functioning after the event.

About Chef Xavier Lacaze:

For the past seven years, Calgary Foodies have developed a strong desire to claim Xavier Lacaze as their own, and with good reason.  From memorable stints as Executive Chef at The Muse Restaurant and Home Tasting Room to an unforgettable run on season two of Top Chef Canada, Chef Lacaze has been one to watch in some of our city’s most revered kitchens.  Xavier’s culinary trek to Calgary began in Toulouse, his hometown in the southwest of France.  There, at the age of 15, he launched his career in fine dining at a restaurant in Gascony, France.  After his successful debut in the world of professional kitchens, Xavier crafted the basics of classical French cuisine by spending three years at a Michelin Star restaurant France.   After acquiring the essential fundamentals, Xavier sought to build his resume in some of Europe’s best restaurants.   In 2008 Xavier moved to Calgary where he quickly established a notable reputation as Executive Chef at The Muse.  Since it’s opening in 2013, you can enjoy Xavier’s culinary delights at Briggs Kitchen and Bar  (one of Urbanspoon’s top ten new restaurants in Canada for that year) where he is the Concept Chef.   At Briggs, Xavier trains his passion and shares his vast experience daily.  However, you do not necessarily have to take a job at Briggs to learn from this esteemed Chef for Xavier is constantly making himself available to the public through gourmet cooking classes and charitable events held throughout the city.  In 2014 Xavier Lacaze became a Canadian citizen and firmly planted his roots even deeper in this city.  Rejoice Vino for Bambino diners!


About Carl Boucher:

Carl Boucher is originally from Chicoutimi, Quebec and moved to Calgary early 2005. After studying international geography at Laval University, Carl followed his passion for wine in the restaurant and hotel industry of old Quebec city. Carl has worn every possible hat in the restaurant industry, from sommelier, food and beverage director, wine director, Maitre’D, assistant general manager and wine concierge. Most importantly, Carl’s passion for people means he brings a multitude of strong relationships within “corporate Calgary.” There’s a good chance you’ve had a bottle off of one of Carl’s wine lists in the past at one of the prime restaurants in Calgary’s downtown: Belgo, Q Haute Cuisine or Rush Ocean Prime.

Getting There:

  • There is public parking available onsite in the North parking lot, the West parking lot is currently closed, cost $10
  • Be responsible; don’t drink and drive!
    • Two complimentary shuttle golf carts will be running between the Zoo Main Entrance and the ENMAX Conservatory
    • Local taxi companies are familiar with the event and will be available to pick up, we recommend using the Checker App on your smartphone if there are no cabs when you go to leave
    • The C-train will be running for the entirety of the event
